Liposuction Contouring Options

Liposuction is a body-sculpting surgical procedure that reshapes targeted areas of the body. This procedure improves your shape and proportions by removing localized pockets of fat in various parts of the body. The most common liposuction treatment areas are:

The most common liposuction treatment areas are:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Thighs
  • Lower legs
  • Hips
  • Waist
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Chin
  • Neck

These areas can be treated individually or combined for a more enhanced result. During your initial consultation at our plastic surgery office, Dr. Strazar will carefully assess your areas of concern to create an individualized treatment plan.

Liposuction Candidates

The objective of liposuction is to remove small pockets of fat to improve the silhouette, but it’s not a substitute for substantial weight loss. A good candidate for liposuction is someone who is already at or near their ideal healthy weight but has some “problem areas” that don’t respond to diet and exercise. For best results, candidates should have good muscle tone and firm skin.

Can Liposuction Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Liposuction is ideal for combining with other procedures, and many people who have procedures such as breast lifts, tummy tucks, and mommy makeovers, choose to have liposuction at the same time.

The fat removed during liposuction can even be transferred into other parts of the body, as in the Brazilian butt lift and breast augmentation with fat transfer.

What Is SAFE Liposuction?

Dr. Strazar performs a specialize version of liposuction called SAFE liposuction. SAFE liposuction is a newer and more thoughtful technique of liposuction. It utilizes the steps of Separation, Aspiration and Fat Equalization which optimizes smooth, even fat removal. The process reduces the injury to surrounding areas, minimizes blood loss, and results in a less painful recovery. It also allows for larger areas of the body to be contoured and minimizes contour imperfections which can be left behind after standard liposuction.

Recovery After Liposuction

Most people recover quite quickly from liposuction and are able to return to work in just a few days. After surgery, patients are required to wear a compression garment to help the body adjust to its new shape. Drainage may occur for about 1 week. Lymphatic massages are recommended for a faster recovery.

After a couple of weeks, most people can return to all of their usual activities. Note that these are average times; for people who have larger or multiple areas of fat removed, the recovery period may be longer.

It doesn’t take long to see the initial results of liposuction. Even though bruising and swelling linger for several weeks, it’s usually possible to see within less than a week that your body’s general shape has improved. The full results, after all the swelling has gone and the skin has tightened, might not be apparent for several months.

How Long Do Liposuction Results Last?

The fat that is removed during liposuction is unable to regrow or return. However, the remaining fat cells are still able to increase or decrease in size depending upon factors such as calorie intake and activity levels. Therefore, to best maintain the results of liposuction, patients are encouraged to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Patients who are diligent in taking good care of their overall health can typically enjoy the results of liposuction for many years.
