Arm Lift
What Is A Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is considered for patients who wish to tighten their arm skin and reduce sagging by removing loose skin and fat deposits in the upper arm. Weight loss is a common culprit for the excess skin, but it can also be caused by age or genetics. A brachioplasty can slim the appearance of the arms, provide relief from painful chafing, and create a more toned arm appearance.
Who Is A Candidate For A Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
In order to determine if you are a candidate for a brachioplasty, you will need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Strazar. An arm lift surgery targets not only the outside layers of skin but also the deeper tissues that have loosened. Patients who have gained and lost large amounts of weight are the best candidates for this procedure. It is imperative that you have arrived at your stable goal before undergoing this procedure. Future weight fluctuations can negatively impact the final results of the arm lift. It is essential that you do not have any underlying health conditions that can pose a risk to an effective recovery and healing. This includes smoking. Patient who smoke will be asked to quit before they are considered eligible for any body contouring surgery.
What Is Involved With A Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
The arm lift procedure that best suits your needs will be carefully customized, using the most appropriate combination of techniques. Occasionally, when there is excess fat only with minimal skin excess and good skin elasticity, liposuction alone may be sufficient. More often there is excess skin which may require removal for most ideal contouring.
When the excess is mild and limited to the inner arm area only, a short scar brachioplasty may be considered. When the excess skin and fat involve both the upper arm near the chest and the lower arm to the elbow, an extended brachioplasty may be recommended. During this procedure, the incision most commonly made is from the elbow to the axilla, which addresses redundant skin in the middle of the arm.
Recovery After A Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)
Bruising and swelling are common after a brachioplasty. Return to everyday activities can start gradually in the first few days after surgery and most patient are able to return to work in 1-2 weeks. Compression garments may be worm on the arms to facilitate healing.
